Głównym bohaterem Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain jest Punished Snake (aka Big Boss) – jedna z kluczowych postaci w uniwersum Metal Gear, która jest świetnie znana weteranom serii, między innymi dzięki Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
